Sophie Parkes was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire in 1985. Following degrees from the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, Sophie has a PhD in Creative Writing and Folklore from Sheffield Hallam University.

She won a Northern Writers' Award in 2017 and has published a biography of musician of Eliza Carthy, and co-wrote the autobiography of endurance athlete Dave Heeley.
